About TessaHedron

TessaHedron has, in some form or another, been twenty-eight years and counting in development. It was in 1997 that I first had the idea for a story that would grow and change shape over the years until it eventually became a part of what is now something much bigger.

During this time, in between shelving the project several times (sometimes for years), I made copious notes and plans and wrote thousands of words of a number of TessaHedron stories. What I originally referred to as “The Edinburgh Project” has been through many iterations over the years and, though I now know the rough shape of it all, I still have far more questions than answers.

Over the last two or so years, I have also been working on a series of seasonal notebooks. I have thoroughly enjoyed this approach, sharing work on the cheerful understanding it isn’t perfect and, if I enjoy the process and the results, I may well pick it up and refine it in future.

Now, I want to apply this method to TessaHedron. Sometimes, I find the sheer potential scale of the project stifling rather than exhilarating. I have also realised how much I get out of sharing a work in progress, not just to receive feedback but to push myself to work through some of my own quandaries by trying them out, rationalising them in my own mind as I go. There is also a significant accountability element to it all.

This writer’s notebook will not be chronological, sequential, or possibly even logical. I will be organising my own thoughts in real-time. One week I might be figuring out a character’s back story, the next I might be working out how to reference and incorporate a more obscure historical fact that I have discovered and love. I might contradict myself at times, I will certainly change my mind about and refine details. It will be an exercise in creativity; in worldbuilding, writing, and editing in their broadest forms.

The time has come for me to finally live and breathe TessaHedron for a while. I would love it if you chose to follow along.

Find Me Elsewhere

Essays, thoughts, and other such morsels can be found on Lydia Crow, my personal website. The Inventory is probably the best place to start.

My newsletter, Vignettes, will always include a round-up of the various digital haunts I have been frequenting over the previous months, as well as an indication of where I might be the following month.

I host seasonal notebooks under the banner of Scribbles and Sketches, four a year, each lasting a calendar month and following a single theme, which may be predominantly textual or predominantly visual.

I am currently hosting a year-long project, Simply This, featuring suggestions of fun and interesting things to do. Bursts of nostalgia, old-fashioned fun in its simplest state, and a not insignificant amount of cheerful daftness.

I am sporadically active on Substack Notes.
